Our original building was built in 1905 and is the home for all of our prom gowns, bridesmaid dresses, baptism and flower girl dresses as well as women's social occasion dressing. It is here that you will find an array of all colors and styles that range from short and flirty to soft and elegant. You will be astonished at the selection of modest and stylish gowns to choose from in all of our divisions. Every client is greeted by one of our friendly and well trained consultants. They will assist you in any way you wish to be helped. Although we cannot always provide one on one service in our social occasion store, however, it is our desire to help you as much as we possibly can. Each of our consultants has been trained to assist you with color and gown style selection and has extensive training in all of our lines so that she can help you find exactly what you desire. Many of our gowns in this store can be special ordered in the color and size you specifically desire, provided you allow yourself enough time. After you have found that gown that is uniquely you please sit back and relax as our seamstress fits your gown perfectly to your body for your extra special occasion.
Born and raised in Northern California, Kathleen was the oldest of 4 children, having 2 younger sisters and one brother. As a child she was always creating and making things. Whether she was making something for her doll to wear or putting together a costume for the neighborhood children’s production of “The Wizard of Oz”, Kathleen was always using her creative talents. When she was 11 years old she began learning to sew during the summer months when she would visit and stay with her grandmother who lived in Wyoming.
With that gentle tutoring grew a love of working and creating something beautiful out of a piece of fabric. Each year from the 7th grade on she took sewing classes in school. She lived for shopping trips to Britex Fabrics in San Francisco where she would literally have to be pulled away from the store as they closed for the night. There were never enough hours in the day to sew all of the designs she had created in her mind and then sketched onto paper. As each year passed her skills improved and eventually lead her to be chosen by McCall’s Magazine & Pattern Company, as a Fashion Teen representative. She was also chosen as the outstanding senior student for the Home Economics Department the year she graduated from High School.
After graduating she attended Brigham Young University, in Provo, Utah majoring in Clothing and Textiles. The opportunity for marriage presented itself 1 ½ years after starting college and then a year after getting married a little girl blessed their home. Thus school was put on the back burner while Kathleen raised her family. She has 3 daughters and 2 sons all of which are married. She now says the joy of her children has quadrupled with the addition of 13 grandchildren. During the years of raising her family she continuously took classes to learn the latest techniques in sewing and design while at the same time using those skills to dress others as well as her own family. For Easter one year she made her husband a baby blue and white plaid suit to match the dresses she had made for their 2 daughters and herself. Oh my goodness, what was she thinking?!!!!! But creative it was to say the very least.
After years and years of designing and sewing for others the opportunity arose for Kathleen to design a line of modest prom gowns for a small bridal company. After a few seasons she ventured out on her own to follow her dreams of designing and began the “Exclusively Modest” line of Prom, Bridesmaid, Flower girl and Bridal gowns she carries in her stores. You may not see her face to face in the store any longer, but you see her in every design carrying her “Kathleen’s” label. Her logo “Exclusively Modest Gowns, for the Uniquely Modern you” tells it all.
